Rites of Manhood: The Horrifying Crocodile Scar Ritual


What this community does as a male right of passage takes gross to a whole new level.
It’s a ritual done in Papua New Guinea by the famous Crocodile-men who are of the Kaningara Tribe.

It is in this rite of passage, which involves lots of horrendous cutting and pain, that boys are made into men. The scars that result in the cuttings are worn as a badge of honour and are displayed proudly. Every man that comes of age needs to go though this in order to be recognized in the community.
The video below describes the ritual more, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart.
