Police on Thursday, June 23, arrested a 21-year-old man over the murder of a female major with the Ministry of Defence in the capital’s Tuol Kork district, Cambodia.
The victim, identified as Ly Davy, 36, was stabbed to death on Wednesday, June 22 as she was walking down the street to buy food. She was stabbed to death with a vegetable knife in the back, on the left side. The knife pierced the heart and she died instantly.
Sderng Sarith said Mei Kimhong confessed to the crime, adding that he killed the victim, Ly Davy, because she was rude and insulted him.
"The arrest was made after the authorities checked security camera [footage] from a villager living nearby, and they saw the suspect stabbing the victim," Sarith confirmed.
Police arrested Kimhong, who confessed during interrogation. According to Kimhong’s confession, he disliked Davy because she looked down on him and would spit in his direction every time she passed him. This behavior, he said, aggravated him and he had been planning to kill her for some time.
The police accounts show that Davy was headed to the market to buy food, when Kimhong, riding his motorcycle, stabbed her in the back with a knife, only to make a quick escape once nearby villagers were alerted to the incident.
Kimhong, who is a mathematics student at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, has been charged with intentional murder and is currently being held in the Tuol Kork district police station.
